Hello all,
Here's my idea: a group of people meet every week for like 1-2 hours
and talk about composing/songwriting projects. I imagine it as like a
writing workshop, but for songwriters. Musicians who compose as well as
people who cannot play or read music but like to write lyrics, my hope
is that if we get a bunch of people together the creativity will just
flow and that benefits everybody.
Bring in your music and play it for others, get people's reactions,
everyone gives you ideas of how you can change this part or improve that
part... Listen to others' music ideas and give your feedback as well,
and maybe glean new ideas from others.
Every week a different person brings in an example of a song they like
and talk about what they like about it, listen to others' reactions to
the piece. Classical, jazz, rock, indie, hip hop and rap, I don't think
there's any music that wouldn't belong in this kind of space.
Every week have an "assignment." Come up with lyrics, write a piece in a certain style, etc.
Anyway right now I am just seeing how many people are interested in this
idea... It would be great to make this into something regular. If I
get at least two affirmative responses for this ad by Saturday, we will
have our first meeting this Saturday, the 8th of October in a coffee
shop somewhere.
